From 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, the faculty showcased its full diversity: campus tours, hands-on activities, degree programme presentations and creative workshops invited visitors to explore, try things out and ask questions. There was great interest in the wide-ranging insights into research and teaching: for instance, visitors were able to try out modern human-machine interactions in the usability lab or be transported into virtual worlds with the help of 3D scans. The FabLab also attracted many curious visitors with its creative possibilities. In addition, other lecture theatres, laboratories and workshops opened their doors – such as the AIS Laboratory, which presented practical research projects on age-appropriate assistance systems and the promotion of digital reading, thereby demonstrating the faculty’s application-oriented approach.
A particular highlight for young guests was the Children’s University in the Audimax. Through two entertaining and educational talks, children were able to experience just how exciting psychology and the natural sciences can be. Together, they laughed, marvelled and carried out experiments – whilst also learning about emotions, colours and plants.
The programme in the inner courtyard also attracted many visitors: with a Latin dance workshop organised by the University Sports Department, games and craft activities, the Lego Challenge, a varied programme from the Fairtrade Group, hands-on mobility and logistics activities, and many other events, there was plenty of entertainment and information on offer.
The fantastic atmosphere was created not only by the university’s dedicated staff and students, but also by the musical entertainment and the food and drink on offer, which helped beat the heat with refreshing drinks and snacks.
With colourful information stands and buzzing with lively conversation, the campus showed itself at its most vibrant. “This day demonstrates just how open, committed and diverse our faculty is – and how much joy it brings to share knowledge together,” said Dean Prof. Dr Hegemann. “It’s wonderful to see how many people are enthusiastic about our university and the issues of the future. Nothing can replace face-to-face interaction.” By the end, many guests were left with the impression that academia is anything but dry – on the contrary: it is creative, vibrant, practical and open to all generations.
