Next up is a new entry from the “Best Idea Cup 2019” series. The next business idea comes from Daniela Venegas Carreno. Together with her fellow student Philippe Vayda, she has developed the Art Glove – a massage glove designed to help people with rheumatoid arthritis through vibrations.
Arthritis causes pain and swelling, particularly in the hands of those affected, and restricts their movement. Whilst standard drug treatments do relieve pain, they also have side effects.
Venegas Carreno’s mother suffers from this condition. However, she is able to relieve her pain effectively with hand massages. Yet it is not always possible for someone to help her with the massage. This is how the Colombian woman came up with the idea of developing a massage glove to enable her to perform the massage without assistance.
The Art Glove team has since expanded to include Philippe Vayda, a student of usability engineering. As well as winning the ‘Best Idea Cup 2019’ award, the pair can now also celebrate receiving start-up consultancy from the Centre for Research, Innovation and Transfer (ZFIT) and the NRW start-up grant.
The duo’s aim is not only to help Venegas Carreno’s mother and others in similar situations, but also to reach people who do a lot of work with their hands or simply want to enjoy a hand massage now and then.
