The series of open, free lectures kicks off with the event ‘The Development of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences – Growth over the Last Ten Years’ on 15 October 2019 at the Kleve campus.
Growth influences our lives and living conditions in a wide variety of ways, both directly and indirectly. Whether viewed from a physical, economic, environmental, technological, socio-political or personal perspective, growth has far-reaching implications. This semester, the Studium Generale programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is exploring this complex topic from a wide range of perspectives.
The lecture topics for the 2019/2020 winter semester range from general economic growth and growth in specific sectors such as the healthcare industry, biotechnology and the Internet of Things, through to growth in the context of climate change, and on to personal development and ageing. Professor Dr.-Ing. Peter Kisters, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, is looking forward to welcoming a large number of interested visitors. “We experience growth in our own lives and encounter it time and again in many different areas. I am therefore certain that the topic, in all its facets, will make for some fascinating lectures. However, we also attach great importance to exchange and discussion with all those interested,” explains Vice-President Kisters.
Professor Dr Marie-Luise Klotz, Founding President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and Dipl.-Kfm. Michael Strotkemper, Chancellor of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will open the lecture series on
15 October 2019 at 7.00 pm. The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 010 (Audimax).
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was awarded to the towns of Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort by the state government following a competitive tender process in November 2008. Since then, preparations have been underway – gaining momentum with the appointment of the two founding officers on
1 February 2009 – to achieve the objectives set by the state government. Growth has taken place in line with the required quality standards and at a rapid pace – in teaching, research, networks at home and abroad, administration, buildings, laboratories, the academic and support staff, and the entire range of facilities. Where does the university stand after 10 years of rapid development? The speakers will provide insights into the various phases of the establishment and consolidation of the young Rhein-Waal University.
The Studium Generale was designed to make academia accessible through lectures that are easy for everyone to understand. The lecture programme is aimed at the general public, students, school pupils and those interested in academia in the region, as well as at professors and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a commitment to general, universal education. The lecture series also provides a platform for lively exchange and discussion on current issues.
