On 20 May 2015, the next Children’s University lecture at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences for the 2015 summer term will take place, on the topic of water. Admission is free. The lecture begins at 5.15 pm in the Audimax at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort, Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 18 May 2015: When it comes to treating waste water, LINEG – with its staff on the left bank of the Lower Rhine – is the leading organisation. “What happens to the water when it goes down the drain or into the toilet at home?” LINEG board member Karl-Heinz Brandt and biologist Dr Carmen Gallas-Lindemann have set themselves the task of answering this question in a way that is accessible and easy for children to understand as part of the Children’s University programme. The content of their talk ties in with the topic covered by Andreas Kaudelka, head of the municipal utilities. In the first Children’s University lecture in Kamp-Lintfort in January, he spoke on the subject of where water comes from and why clean water is so important.
Using simple examples and small experiments, Karl-Heinz Brandt and Dr Carmen Gallas-Lindemann aim to explain, in a child-friendly way, what wastewater actually is, how it reaches the treatment works, what happens there and who actually carries out the work. Finally, the pair naturally also ask why water treatment is so important.
The Children’s University.
Through the Children’s University, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers children aged between eight and twelve the opportunity to develop a passion for the world of science through lectures (45 minutes) specially designed for them. Just like proper students, they are given student ID cards. They sit in lecture theatres and can ask real professors all sorts of questions. The big difference from a proper degree course is that there are no exams to sit.
