An exciting programme is on offer at both campuses for members of the university community, friends and supporters of the university, as well as local residents. Prospective students will once again have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and find out more about what the university has to offer.
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is ten years young. Reason enough to celebrate its first milestone birthday in style with a campus festival in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. And what could be more natural than to organise it to coincide with the Open Day? University staff, friends and supporters of the university, as well as local residents, can look forward to two days of live music, entertainment and a lively atmosphere on both days. Daniel Danger will be hosting the entire programme on both weekends. The popular reporter and presenter is known for his ‘dangerous’ missions on the radio station 1LIVE. His mission for the campus festival and the Open Day: to delight the guests of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences with plenty of humour. ‘For us, as a relatively young university, this anniversary is something special. We have achieved a great deal over the past ten years and experienced remarkable growth. This fills us with pride, but also with great joy, which we would like to share with the people of the region at our campus festivals,’ said Professor Dr Eberhard Menzel, Acting President.
Campus Festival
The celebrations will begin at the Kleve campus on 24 May 2019 at 7.00 pm. Three weeks later, on 14 June 2019, they will kick off at the Kamp-Lintfort campus, also at 7.00 pm. At both venues, alongside entertainment, there will be a performance by the anniversary choir, formed especially for the occasion, as well as an engaging panel discussion entitled ‘Talk around the World’. Well-known live bands and DJs will be taking to the stage. In Kleve, the Kranenburg-based band New Age – featuring singer Rahel, known from ‘The Voice of Germany’ – and DJ FRDY, a Parookaville resident from Weeze, will set the party mood for the evening. In Kamp-Lintfort, the band Parallel, together with DJ FRDY, will take the reins.
The events will continue on the following Saturdays: 25 May 2019 in Kleve and 15 June 2019 in Kamp-Lintfort. As well as the open day from 11.00 to 16.00, a children’s programme featuring a bouncy castle, face painting and a rodeo bull ride will be on offer at both venues from 11.00 until 22.00. The ‘Baum-Netzwerk’ tree-planting campaign will also run throughout the day. Visitors can make a donation towards a tree to be planted in Germany or anywhere in the world. In this way, donors not only contribute to sustainable climate improvement but also experience the significance of the tree as a symbol of the anniversary, growing from the region out into the world. From 4.00 pm, the evening’s programme will gradually get under way. In Kleve, the Cleve Cheetahs cheerleaders, alongside dancer Sören Niewelt and dancer Jessica Sarah Larbig – both coaches at the ballet school in Geldern – will perform lively acrobatic and dance routines. Before the band Sup-X and Moers-based DJ Fabian Farell – resident DJ at the legendary Bootshaus in Cologne – take turns performing and spinning records, university staff members who have been with the institution since its very inception will be honoured for their service anniversaries. In Kamp-Lintfort, the Angels Revolution cheerleaders from Kamp-Lintfort, as well as Sören Niewelt and Jessica Sarah Larbig once again, will be showcasing their skills. Fabian Farell will also be back, alternating with the band Daily Friday. Staff members can look forward to being honoured here too.
Open Day
The Open Day will once again offer a glimpse behind the scenes. From 11:00 to 16:00 on 25 May 2019 at the Kleve campus and on 15 June 2019 at the Kamp-Lintfort campus, a wide range of activities will take place. Local residents, prospective students, current students, alumni and business representatives are invited to explore both campuses. You can take guided tours of lecture theatres, laboratories and libraries, take part in a wide range of hands-on activities and find out more about the degree programmes on offer. There will also be plenty of opportunities to chat with students and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The university will showcase its faculties, along with their range of degree programmes, research and projects. Interesting talks and discussions, as well as entertaining demonstrations and presentations, will provide insightful glimpses into university life. For the little ones, there will be engaging experiments and excursions. University sports, the university’s music programme – featuring its choir and orchestra, the project choir, the Kamp-Lintfort Music School, and university and student bands – will provide all sorts of entertainment on stage throughout the day. Daniel Danger will be hosting the event.
Special features
A highlight of the programme in Kleve on 25 May 2019 will once again be the popular Schwanenritter Race. Twelve teams will compete against one another on the Spoy Canal. They must build their own boats from specified materials within a set time, which they will then use to race from the starting point to the finish line. The race starts at 1.45 pm. The best teams will receive prizes. Participants in the race must register in advance. The first twelve entries will be accepted. Excitement and fun are guaranteed.
In Kamp-Lintfort, there is a special event that is no less exciting: preparations for the 2020 Kamp-Lintfort State Garden Show are in full swing. Through the Green FabLab project, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will also be represented as a partner at the State Garden Show. Anyone keen to find out what’s currently happening on the building site can join a 45-minute guided tour of the LaGa grounds on 15 June 2019 at
1.30 pm or 3.00 pm.
At both venues, a selection of food trucks and drinks trolleys will be on hand on both Friday and Saturday to provide plenty of food and refreshments.
