The next event as part of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ Children’s University will take place on 11 February 2015. In their lecture, Dr Max Voß and Alexander Wilmes from the Research and Development department at RWE AG will explain, in a way that children can understand, why electricity is a valuable resource and why we need to use it responsibly. Admission is free. The event starts at 5.15 pm in the Audimax at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve, Marie-Curie-Str. 1.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 4 February 2015: What do we actually need electricity for? What makes electricity so valuable in our lives today? Dr Max Voß and Alexander Wilmes kick off an engaging lesson by posing these questions to the young pupils. As they embark on a journey together into the past and to other countries, further thought-provoking questions are raised. Do we take electric lights, games consoles and washing machines for granted?
Voß and Wilmes aim to introduce their young audience to the topic of electricity in a way that is both child-friendly and easy to understand. In the process, the young researchers also look to the future.
Finally, a simple experiment demonstrates what lies behind the socket.
The Children’s University
Through the Children’s University, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers children aged between 8 and 12 the opportunity to develop a passion for the world of science through lectures (45 minutes) specially designed for them. Just like proper students, they are given student ID cards. They sit in lecture theatres and can ask real professors as many questions as they like. The big difference from a proper degree course is that there are no exams to sit.

Children who are keen to take part in the Children’s University can attend either all or just individual lectures. The current lecture timetable for the Children’s University can be viewed on the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences website at www.hochschule-rhein-waal.de. No registration is required for the lectures. Admission is free. The events all start at 5.15 pm.
