With “Engelsrepublik”, the Media Computing Group and theatre producer Max Bilitza once again brought an artistic research-based performance project to the stage.
The multimedia production, in which students from the Digital Media and Media and Communication Informatics programmes at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences collaborated with professional dancers and artists, is a total work of art exploring the rise, decadence and fall of a highly technologised, fictional state. This expansive portrayal of the ‘transparent’ digital age interweaves private and public, internal and external, visible and emotional spaces into an overlapping structure of perceptual levels. Voices, stories, facts and fiction are brought into sharp focus, as if through a telescope, whilst at the same time the scope for interpretation appears to be boundlessly open. The event also featured a walk-in performative installation by João Martinho Moura from Portugal.
In collaboration with international artists, the multi-talented artist and choreographer Max Bilitza has been creating dance performances, installations and exhibitions for more than ten years. This is already the fourth production with the student Media Computing Group at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with the aim of jointly further developing the dialogue between art and science.
