With his lecture entitled ‘The Function of Modern Exhaust Gas Treatment Systems for Diesel Engines and Their Limitations’, Professor Dr Roland Schmetz, Professor of Powertrain Technology specialising in Power Electronics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, brings this year’s Studium Generale on the theme of ‘Energy’ to a close.
This keynote presentation highlights the measures that are currently being (or could be) implemented to ensure the cleanest possible energy conversion using diesel engines, how they work, and where their limitations lie. Furthermore, it briefly examines which environmental impacts nevertheless remain, whilst broadening the focus beyond the remaining direct emissions from diesel engines. The talk aims to stimulate a broader discussion on the responsible use of internal combustion engines as energy converters – particularly in vehicles – and their impact on the environment.
The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 1).
The lecture forms part of the ‘Studium Generale’ programme and has been designed to make scientific topics accessible through lectures that are easy for the general public to understand. The lecture programme is aimed at members of the public, students, school pupils and anyone in the region with an interest in science, as well as professors and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on general, universal education. Attendance is free of charge and no advance registration is required.
