Thanks to the commitment of businesses and private individuals in the Lower Rhine region, a total of 50 high-achieving students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will receive a Germany Scholarship during the 2015/2016 winter semester.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 20 January 2016: Dr Stefan Dietzfelbinger, Chairman of the Board of the Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., expressed his gratitude to the sponsors on behalf of the organisers and welcomed the strong commitment shown by regional businesses: “The scholarship providers share a common aim: to support students who stand out through outstanding academic achievement and exceptional commitment. We want to show these talented individuals that they have long-term prospects in the region.”
With this scholarship dinner, the three Friends’ Associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, are expressing their gratitude for the commitment of the scholarship providers, which enables a total of 50 students to be supported. In addition to financial support, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the supporting associations attach particular importance to strengthening the links between the scholarship donors and their scholarship recipients as potential future talent for the region.
Over a buffet and drinks, the scholarship recipients engaged in interesting discussions with the business representatives in attendance and members of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences about their studies, career aspirations and professional ambitions, whilst also forging new contacts with companies in the Lower Rhine region. Furthermore, during a formal certificate presentation ceremony, they were honoured by the university management for their outstanding achievements and received a certificate from the Federal Minister of Education, Prof. Dr Johanna Wanka, presented by Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Students with very good academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which is raised by the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, its support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government. In 2016, a total of 90,000 euros was donated by private scholarship providers. In this way, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences was able to award a total of 180,000 euros in scholarship funds to its 50 best students.
The friends’ associations support the university in recruiting potential donors. The successful evening, which featured many in-depth discussions and new contacts, demonstrated that there is more at stake here than simply the funding of the scholarships.
