The Summer School offers training in science communication for university students, researchers and educators. It innovatively combines science and art in the practice of science communication.
Our second International Summer School in Science Communication (3–12 July 2017) will take place in Marathon, Greece, at the Golden Coast Hotel. For Rhine-Waal students whose applications are successful, Erasmus+ will cover the costs of flights, accommodation and fees. We are expecting around 80 participants from all over the world, approximately 10 of whom will be invited from HSRW.
The programme covers the main aspects of science communication, including journalism, social media, policy, management and artistic approaches such as science theatre and science comedy. The workshop will be a fully immersive experience combining theory and practice, and no prior experience is required.
We aim to train science communication ambassadors who are keen to engage with various sectors of the public once they return to their home countries. We aim to improve public understanding of science and promote informed decision-making, increase student uptake of STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), stimulate the socio-economic wellbeing of partner countries, and enhance the transferable skills of current researchers.
The deadline for applications is 7 April at 12:00 noon. Applications will be assessed by a panel comprising the seven project partners.
