The President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Dr Heide Naderer, and the university’s cycling team are once again pedalling hard in the Kleve City Cycling Challenge.
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is showing its sporty side as part of the ‘Stadtradeln Kleve’ campaign. With this year’s university tour, the sports enthusiasts led by President Dr Heide Naderer are pursuing a special goal: cycling is not only a valuable contribution to climate protection and personal health – it also brings people and places together. What could be more natural than linking the Kleve campus with the Kamp-Lintfort campus via a cycle tour?
The tour covers around
50 km along beautiful (cycle) paths from Kleve to Kamp-Lintfort, with a refreshment stop at the Kriemhildmühle in Xanten. “This year’s route is a bit challenging, but the scenery is truly lovely,” says President Dr Naderer, describing the modest sporting challenge. “We invite all residents of Kleve to join us on our ride. Provided we aren’t hampered by heavy thunderstorms and downpours, I’m looking forward to meeting people along the way and to the more than symbolic connection between two campuses that complement each other wonderfully.”
Experienced cyclists can complete the one-way route in around three hours. As this is not an official event organised by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the university accepts no liability whatsoever for this tour as part of the ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign. Participants must make their own arrangements for the return journey to Kleve.
The quickest route by bike is to Kerken-Nieukerk station (approx. 16 km). From there, trains run back to Kleve every half hour. “Not ideal, but doable,” says Naderer. “With this initiative, we want to make at least a small contribution to a better environment whilst also highlighting the day-to-day challenges involved in connecting the two campuses.” Better integration of both campuses into the local public transport network remains on Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ wish list.
