Speed dating – Companies meet students (press release)

The programme, organised as part of the annual event series, was once again in high demand this year. Every 10 minutes, companies and students had the opportunity to meet and discuss internships and final-year projects.

Young professionals are also in demand in the Lower Rhine region. With more than 7,300 students across numerous degree programmes, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers enormous potential for businesses in the region. As a valuable partner in securing a skilled workforce, the university organises ‘speed dating’ events, a format that allows students to introduce themselves to as many interesting companies as possible in a very short space of time. Companies have the opportunity to present their offers for potential work placements or final-year projects. This year, students and company representatives got to know one another during almost 140 meetings on the Kamp-Lintfort campus. The university’s Career Service ensured that everything was well organised.

Once again, MERA Tiernahrung GmbH from Kevelaer took part at Kamp-Lintfort. “We are once again very impressed with this year’s speed-dating event. The students were well-informed. The people we spoke to were an excellent match for the profiles we were looking for,” said Dr Stefan Mandel, Head of Research & Development and Head of Quality Management at MERA. The company can therefore well imagine taking part regularly in Kleve in future.

WALTHER Faltsysteme GmbH, also based in Kevelaer, was once again on site to get to know students. “At these events, you get a good first impression of the students and, thanks to the rapid succession of interviews, you’re able to compare them effectively. That’s not possible in the same way during in-house job interviews at the company,” emphasises project manager Oliver van Neerven. “From our point of view, this type of recruitment event is effective. For example, a former applicant made a convincing impression during the 10-minute interview and subsequently completed a successful work placement with us. She also wrote her bachelor’s thesis with us. And today, that former speed-dating participant is a permanent employee at WALTHER Faltsysteme as a quality manager,” adds PR and Marketing Manager Robin Funke. That’s what you call a real win-win situation.

“The event goes down very well with the students. Speed dating is an ideal opportunity for them to get to know regional companies and expand their network through direct interaction with the participating organisations,” says co-organiser Marion Kraft from the Career Service at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, delighted with the high turnout.
