In front of packed halls, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences warmly welcomed its new students to the induction week at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses. The 2017/2018 winter term gets underway with a varied programme of events at both sites.
There was a large turnout in the main lecture theatre on the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses for the welcome event for first-year students at the start of orientation week. The President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Dr Heide Naderer, welcomed the new students.
“By choosing to study at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, you have taken a major step towards your future. I wish you a successful and exciting time studying at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and am delighted that we can accompany you on this journey,” said Dr Naderer as she welcomed the new students, encouraging them to make the most of the university’s international focus. “Be curious. Network with other students and partners from both here and abroad. Only in this way can you become a genuine part of our growing university.” Whilst the number of students stood at 5,816 at the end of last year’s summer term, the university recorded 6,287 students at the same time this year. At the same time, however, the President also emphasised that openness to the world and tolerance are key principles of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “You should therefore respect the opinions and attitudes of others. Be open to getting to know people from different socio-cultural backgrounds and accept their differences or different ways of thinking,” said the President.
Following this, Heinz-Joachim Schmidt, First Deputy Mayor of Kleve, and Prof. Dr Christoph Landscheidt addressed the first-year students at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses, who will now call these two university towns home for the next few years. At the same time, both highlighted the advantages of their respective towns, which, in their view, offer much more than just an excellent place to study.
As in previous years, the award ceremony organised by the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE) to recognise outstanding achievements in the first two semesters took place once again. In Kleve, Dr.-Ing. Hans Schüßler, Chair of VDE Lower Rhine, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerrit Gehnen presented the award to Mehdi Abjadpour, a student on the ‘Electronics’ Bachelor’s programme in the Faculty of Technology and Bionics. At the Kamp-Lintfort campus, Ana-Adriana Gincu, a student on the ‘Communication and Information Engineering’ Bachelor’s programme in the Faculty of Communication and Environment, received the award from Dr Schüßler and Prof. Dr.-Ing Christian Ressel.
The induction week once again offered first-year students a wide range of opportunities to get to know one another, as well as the university, the campus and its surroundings. The programme featured numerous activities, events and information stands. It ends on 6 October 2017. Lectures at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences begin on Monday, 9 October 2017.
