On 26 November 2014, the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences invites all interested students and staff members of the university, as well as any members of the public who are interested, to an arthouse film screening followed by a panel discussion at the university’s Kleve campus. The cultural evening begins at 7.00 pm in Building 01, ground floor, Room 005 (Lecture Theatre 1).
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 24 November 2014: As part of a study project, the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is organising a programme of film screenings on the Kleve campus. What makes for a good society, and what role do ever-widening income gaps play in this? In the documentary film ‘Inequality for All’ (shown in the original language with English subtitles), the American economist and former Secretary of Labour under Clinton, Robert Reich, explores precisely this question. Reich examines this topic in a fascinating and entertaining way, highlighting the impact that extreme income inequality has on both democracy and the economy in the ‘land of opportunity’.
Following the film, the topic will be discussed between the audience and a panel comprising Dr Oliver Serfling, former project manager of a World Bank project, and Prof. Norbert Dautzenberg from the Faculty of Society and Economics, as well as two students from the International Relations programme. This cultural film evening, together with the subsequent panel discussion on social and economic issues, is intended to contribute to local community life on behalf of the Faculty of Society and Economics.
