Professor Dr Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk is to become the new President of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences

Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 1 July 2015: The University Council and Senate of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (FH) have elected Professor Dr Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk as President. On 1 September, the current President, Professor Dr Beate Rennen-Allhoff, will hand over the office. She did not stand for re-election.

Dr Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk has been a professor of computer science and biology at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences since 2009. Her teaching areas include human-computer interaction and the development of multimedia systems. As founding dean, she was also involved in establishing the Faculty of Communication and Environment at the Kamp-Lintfort campus. In October 2014, she was reappointed to that post.

The President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Dr Heide Naderer, warmly congratulated Professor Schramm-Wölk on her election and thanked her for her tireless commitment and contribution to the development of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “Her work at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences as the founding dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment deserves the highest recognition. Thanks to your outstanding work, the university’s Kamp-Lintfort campus has made excellent progress. We shall remember you fondly and are delighted to know you are in our neighbourhood,” said the President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

At the Senate meeting at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the Chair of the Senate, Professor Dr Ralf Klapdor, announced Professor Schramm-Wölk’s move to Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences: “I, too, offer my warmest congratulations. I view this move with mixed feelings: I am delighted for my former colleagues at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, who are gaining an excellent president, and I am also pleased that Professor Dr Schramm-Wölk’s pioneering work has been recognised through this appointment. At the same time, I am saddened by the void she will leave behind, which will be very difficult to fill,” says Prof. Klapdor.

With her specialist knowledge, personal commitment and the gift for bringing people together and inspiring them, Professor Dr Schramm-Wölk has driven the Kamp-Lintfort campus forward. After studying biology and medical informatics in Tübingen and Berlin, she worked as a research assistant in the research and development department at Charité Berlin. Schramm-Wölk also spent several years in industry as an IT developer and project manager. In 2004, she obtained her PhD from Humboldt University in Berlin on the topic of ‘electronic patient records’. She then worked as a professor of computer science and multimedia at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen until she moved to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

“Everything required for the faculty’s start-up phase has been achieved. We have already reached many of our goals. Now a new phase is beginning,” explains Professor Schramm-Wölk. “It has been a privilege to play a part in establishing a new university. The past few years have been breathtaking. I would like to thank all my colleagues for this period of intensive teamwork, the students for their trust and cooperation, and the people of Kamp-Lintfort for making us feel at home right from the very start. It is a joy to see so many people pulling together; it makes me feel grateful and happy.”
