Pupils at the Gesamtschule am Forstgarten in Kleve are recording their podcast ‘Wir stärken Mädchen’ at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics. There, they are supported by Dr Maryam Bolouri, a research assistant in the field of science communication, and Naomi McLaughlan, a digitalisation officer for teaching.

The podcast project was launched at the Gesamtschule am Forstgarten as part of the ‘Wir stärken Mädchen’ initiative run by the Children and Youth Foundation, with the aim of encouraging girls to pursue career paths traditionally dominated by men. In their podcast, the eight schoolgirls discuss trades and STEM degree programmes, sometimes also with guests and experts, under the guidance of the school’s social worker, Petra Bothorn.

The teaching staff support the pupils primarily with the technical aspects, helping them with recording and editing in the school’s audio lab, whilst also advising them on various topics and how best to promote the podcast.
