New Chair of the Friends of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences e.V.

The Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences Friends’ Association (Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V.) is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year – just like the university itself. At the same time, the association’s executive committee has elected a new chair: Sabine Albrecht, a member of the management board at Altana Management Services GmbH, is taking over as chair.

Sabine Albrecht succeeds Albert von Hebel, who shaped the work of the Friends’ Association during his five-year tenure as President. He is now retiring. At the anniversary celebration, Dr Stefan Dietzfelbinger, the Association’s Chairman, thanked him for his voluntary commitment: “Albert von Hebel has managed to provide significant impetus for the university and the region, even in challenging times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we succeeded together in setting up an emergency fund for students. Our members raised 60,000 euros in donations for this purpose.”

The new president, Sabine Albrecht, holds a degree in business administration and has been working for the Altana Group since 2010. The speciality chemicals group is headquartered in Wesel and offers innovative, environmentally friendly specialised solutions. The Lower Rhine has now become a second home for Sabine Albrecht too. She lives here with her husband and sons. She is looking forward to her new role: “The university is a real asset to the businesses in our region. Young people from over 120 countries come to us to study and live here. As the Friends’ Association, we support the students and would like to encourage them to pursue their careers in the Lower Rhine region after graduation.”

The Friends’ Association was founded in 2009, at the same time as the university. The initiative originated with the regional business community and the districts of Kleve and Wesel. The aim is to firmly establish the university within the region. Today, around 300 businesses, local authorities and numerous private supporters belong to the university network.
