With the range of courses it offers, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is not only an educational institution for students from over 100 different countries, but also provides training for young people in six different vocational trades. This summer, four new apprentices began their journey into working life, whilst two young people started their voluntary ecological year (FÖJ) at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
To ensure that the training programme is a success for both parties, the trainees receive professional and personal support from their trainers and were welcomed to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences at the start of the induction week. Through a range of presentations, activities and talks organised by the departments and faculties, the trainees got to know Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences better and were able to establish contacts with managers, subject specialists and second- and third-year trainees. A team-building exercise rounded off the programme. “I am delighted to welcome the new trainees and FÖJ participants to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and wish them every success and enjoyment during their training,” said Katrin Bongertmann, Head of Training at the university.
Jasmin Siebert is looking forward to starting her career with her apprenticeship as an office administration assistant in the Human Resources and Organisation Department and will get to know the various departments and faculties as part of a rotation programme during her apprenticeship. Pascal van Veggel and Marvin Baran both began their professional careers by starting their apprenticeships as IT specialists for system integration in the Information Technology Department. Niklas Schatschneider has commenced his apprenticeship as a technical product designer. Alisha Greffin and Benjamin Hegemann have also started their voluntary ecological year at the Tropenhaus. “We are committed to successfully supporting young people as they embark on their professional lives, and we are delighted to be able to offer them a varied and sound apprenticeship with excellent future prospects through exciting and diverse activities. This is made possible in particular by the outstanding work of our trainers and training coordinators,” says Katrin Bongertmann.
Chancellor Michael Strotkemper is also delighted with the new recruits: “Particularly in times of a skills shortage, practical and high-quality training takes on enormous importance, because our trainees are the skilled professionals who will shape the future. We are therefore all the more delighted to give committed young people the chance, through an attractive apprenticeship, to lay the foundations for an exciting career path with excellent prospects for development – right here in the Lower Rhine region,” explains Strotkemper.
With the four apprentices and two FÖJ participants starting in summer 2022, there are currently a total of 15 young people undertaking one of six different vocational training programmes or a voluntary ecological year at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. For the training year starting in August 2023, the university is seeking suitable candidates for the Office Administration Assistant and IT Specialist for Systems Integration programmes.
