New trainees are starting their careers at the university

With its range of courses, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) is not only an educational institution for students from over 120 different countries, but also trains young people in seven different vocational trades. Since the summer of 2024, a total of 13 young people have been undertaking vocational training or a Voluntary Ecological Year at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

At the start of their training, new trainees and FÖJ participants are welcomed to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences as part of the induction days, which give them the opportunity to settle into university life. Through various presentations, activities and talks organised by the university’s departments and faculties, the new recruits get to know the university better. This has already enabled them to make initial contacts with senior management and subject specialists. “The university has once again found some very motivated trainees and FÖJ participants,” said Katrin Bongertmann, Head of Training at HSRW. “I wish them many exciting insights and experiences during their time at the university.”

Tim Chang is looking forward to starting his apprenticeship as an administrative assistant; thanks to a rotation scheme, he will work across the various departments and faculties during his apprenticeship. Maurice Gonsior and Jan Erik Bork are beginning their professional careers with an apprenticeship as IT specialists in system integration, whilst Alexander Schaff is undertaking an apprenticeship as a technical product designer. Isabell Giusto and Elias Kammann are completing their Voluntary Ecological Year at the university’s Tropenhaus.

Apprenticeships are a top priority at the HSRW. “We are very keen to offer a sound and varied apprenticeship programme, thereby laying the foundations for a successful professional future. Individual support from our trainers, opportunities for development and the prospect of a permanent position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship are integral parts of our training concept,” emphasises Katrin Bongertmann.

Chancellor Michael Strotkemper is also delighted with the new recruits: “Particularly at a time of skills shortages, these up-and-coming talents are already an asset to the university, as they are the innovative professionals of tomorrow. The trainees undergo a practical and high-quality apprenticeship. Consequently, the prospects of being offered a permanent post and career progression are very good. The university itself benefits from fresh ideas, specialist expertise and greater diversity – a win-win situation.”

For the training year starting in August 2025, the university is seeking suitable candidates for apprenticeships as administrative assistants, digitalisation management specialists and IT specialists for system integration. The deadline for applications is 20 October 2024. There is also the opportunity to apply for the Voluntary Ecological Year at the Tropenhaus.
