Music lovers can look forward to some jazz at the FRÈ duo’s campus concert on 27 September and to a selection of Turkish music as part of the Muziek Biennale Niederrhein on 28 September.
The German-Dutch duo FRÈ will kick off the series on 27 September at 8.00 pm in the canteen (Building 4, ground floor) on the Kamp-Lintfort campus (Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort). Jazz singer Frederike Berendsen and pianist Julian Bohn will be performing, amongst other things, tracks from their new album ‘Perception’, which draws musical inspiration from the time they spent together in Harlem (New York City). The duo use their compositions as a starting point for adventurous sound experiments and improvisation that blend pop and jazz. Admission is free; a collection box will be available for donations.
On 28 September at 7.00 pm, the Muziek Biennale Niederrhein 2018 – which this year takes place under the theme ‘Forbidden’ – will take place in the foyer of the Lecture Theatre Centre (Building 1) on the Kleve campus (Marie-Curie-Straße 1, 47533 Kleve). Together with Deniz Mahir Kartal and Levent Gener, musician Gürsoy Tanç will present ‘Forbidden Turkey’, a programme dedicated to the banned songs of Turkey that feature on the ‘red lists’ of the state censorship authority. This extraordinary evening of song traces the eventful history of many popular Turkish songs and offers profound insights into the millennia-old musical culture of this bridge between the West and the East. Admission costs €12.00, concessions €8.00. Students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences are admitted free of charge.
