Careers networking event for early-career professionals at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences

Local businesses are showcasing opportunities for school pupils, students and those starting their careers at the connect me fair

The ‘connect me’ fair for apprenticeships, work placements and career entry will take place for the third time on 28 September 2016 at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort. This event offers young people from the region the opportunity to get to know companies from industry, the skilled trades, retail and the service sector, to take a closer look at popular as well as new – and perhaps unfamiliar – career paths, and to find out about work placement opportunities. Many of the 45 participating companies have been involved from the very beginning – however, the Wesel District Network for Training and Employment has also managed to attract new exhibitors such as Dr Oetker, :TROX and Almatec.

The organisers of ‘connect me’ – namely Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, sci:Moers, LINEG, Asdonkshof and wir4 – have devised a special hands-on activity to encourage interaction between visitors and exhibitors. School pupils who are interested can take part in a treasure hunt, in which they must answer a question about each participating company. Attractive prizes will be raffled off, such as a glider flight, Urbanears headphones or Sportpalast vouchers.

“With ‘connect me’, we want to give our students looking for work placements the opportunity to make targeted contacts with companies in the region. We place particular emphasis on our attractive supporting programme, which includes a quick review of application portfolios and presentations on dual study programmes,” says Prof. Dr Franca Ruhwedel, Professor of Finance and Controlling at the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, describing the focus of the fair.

‘connect me’ will be opened at 9.30 am by the Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Education at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Marion Halfmann, the Mayor of Kamp-Lintfort, Prof. Dr Christoph Landscheidt, and Brigitte Jansen, a member of the wir4 Executive Board. The doors will open to school pupils and students at 10.00 am. The exhibition stands will be staffed until 5.00 pm and are located both in the lecture theatre centre and in the canteen on the Kamp-Lintfort campus.

School pupils and students can find out in advance about the training and work placement opportunities offered by the participating companies on the website www.connect-me.info
