Interfaith dialogue between academia and practice

Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the secretariat of the Working Group for Peace and Conflict Research (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung e.V.) (AFK), invites all interested members of the public to the conference ‘Interreligious Dialogue between Academia and Practice’ on Wednesday, 5 July 2017 at the Kleve campus.

Germany is a multi-religious society in which people of a wide variety of religions and worldviews live together. Religious affiliation can be a source of conflict, just as it can contribute to respect for and acceptance of pluralism. In light of current societal challenges, interreligious dialogue is receiving a great deal of attention from both the state and civil society.

Against this backdrop, the conference ‘Interreligious Dialogue between Academia and Practice’ will address the following questions, amongst others, from both an academic and a practice-oriented perspective: How can dialogue between religions and worldviews be promoted? Does interreligious dialogue at a transnational level contribute to upholding the global norm of religious freedom? Does religiously motivated philanthropy within the context of civic engagement reinforce divisions between religious communities, or does it help to build bridges? And: What challenges does interfaith dialogue pose in regional contexts?

The event is aimed at students and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, as well as members of the public with an interest in the subject. The presentations will begin at 1.30 pm in the Lecture Theatre Centre, Room 01 EG 005, on the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Attendance is free of charge and no registration is required.
