The list of achievements and awards won by Nathan Siamudaala, a Bachelor’s student on the ‘Agribusiness’ programme, is a long one: Starting with a podcast entitled ‘Africa 4 Dummies’, in which he co-hosts episodes explaining complex political and social issues on the African continent, the list continues with numerous accolades: In 2022, he was ranked in the top 10 in the ‘Best Idea Cup’ of the ‘StartGlocal’ university project and won the ‘Innovation Week Business Competition’ organised by Enactus Kleve, StartGlocal and Sparkasse Rhein-Maas. With the team project ‘Mombe Monitoring System’, which aims to develop a tracking and health monitoring system for free-range cattle in Zambia, he won the Innovation Prize in the summer term of 2022.
In addition to these and other outstanding achievements, Siamudaala served as a student member of the Senate at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and participated in appointment procedures within his Faculty of Life Sciences. In 2021, he was also delighted to be awarded the ‘DAAD Mitacs Globalinks’ research scholarship, which enabled the Kleve-based student to conduct research at McGill University in Montreal (Canada) on empowering women in Ghanaian farming families. “Your outstanding achievements and academic abilities are truly impressive. As a university lecturer, I can only count myself lucky to have students like you, as you are an inspiration for my own teaching and research,” said Professor Dietrich Darr, who nominated her. “I am sure we will all be hearing more from you.”
The Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity, Prof. Dr Tatiana Zimenkova, was also impressed by these outstanding achievements. “As well as all your commitment, whether to your studies or to university administration, you also produce and present a highly interesting and must-listen podcast. You have impressed not only me, but the entire Executive Board of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.”
The Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity, Prof. Dr Tatiana Zimenkova, and the Professor of Agricultural Industry, Dr Dietrich Darr, presented the 2022 DAAD Prize earlier this week during the opening event of the ‘Days of Antidiscrimination’ (DoA). The DoA is a joint series of events organised by the Vice-President and the General Students’ Committee, which takes place over five days and focuses on an exchange amongst all members of the university community on topics relating to discrimination, inclusion and participation; this is now the third time it has been held.
