He is developing novel functions for the rapid and regular maintenance of wind turbine rotor blades through autonomous visual inspections and conductivity tests.
Giridhar Vitta Bukka, a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering programme at the Faculty, has been awarded the NRW Start-up Grant for his innovative start-up idea in the field of intelligent robotic services. He is developing novel functions for the rapid and regular maintenance of wind turbine rotor blades through autonomous visual inspections and conductivity tests.
The aim is to carry out the visual inspection entirely autonomously using the latest computer vision algorithms. This approach opens up the possibility of conducting the visual inspection process for the rotor blades of an entire wind farm via a graphical user interface. Whilst working as a student trainee at ISIS IC GmbH, he was involved in an EU project called SPECTORS (Sensor Products for Enterprises to Create Technological Opportunities in Aerial Remote Sensing). In this project, he was initially involved in the assembly and configuration of drones. Later, he designed and developed prototypes of peripheral components; these components are used as payloads for the drone.
