30 students on the ‘Mobility and Logistics’ Bachelor’s degree programme at the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences visited Düsseldorf Airport as part of a course in their fifth semester.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 8 June 2015: As part of the ‘Quality and Risk Management’ module, 30 fifth-semester students from the ‘Mobility and Logistics’ degree programme, led by Prof. Dr Andreas Schürholz, Professor of Production and Logistics at the Kamp-Lintfort campus, and Dr Dieter Kopetz, lecturer at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, visited Düsseldorf Airport. Under the theme of ‘Logistics’, the students gained an overview of the logistical processes at Düsseldorf Airport. The aspects of quality, risk, security and structural layout play an important role in this context.
After registering at the start of the excursion, three staff members from Düsseldorf Airport took the students on a bus tour of the airport grounds. The tour began in Airport City, passed through the security checkpoint and then continued to the airfield, where the students were able to observe the take-offs and landings of passenger aircraft at close quarters. The tour then continued to the airport fire station, the cargo halls and, finally, the aircraft. The students gained a comprehensive insight into the operational areas of a modern airport and the associated logistical processes.
“The visit to Düsseldorf Airport was a good opportunity to gain an insight into internship opportunities in the cargo sector,” explains Prof. Dr Andreas Schürholz. Expert commentary from staff was provided during the bus tour of the airport grounds.
