Organised by the Welcome Centre at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, this event brings local residents and students together for the first time over the Christmas period.
How is Christmas celebrated in Germany? What traditional dishes are served? And why do people drink mulled wine throughout December? These and many other questions are on the minds of international students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, who are rarely familiar with German Christmas traditions but are keen to find out more.
To answer these questions and ensure that no student has to spend the festive season alone, the Welcome Centre at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is organising the ‘Christmas Buddy Event’ for the first time at the Kleve campus. As a ‘Christmas Buddy’, anyone interested can, for example, plan a visit to a Christmas market with students, get together to bake, or even invite a student round for Christmas. The event provides an opportunity for everyone to get to know one another.
A highlight of the evening is the ‘Cookie Contest’. Anyone wishing to take part can show off their baking skills and bring along some home-baked biscuits. Prizes will be awarded for the tastiest biscuits. The Welcome Centre will provide refreshments and get everyone into the festive spirit with Christmas carols and stories. And it’s well worth putting on the cheesiest Christmas jumper you can find in your wardrobe – the best one wins a prize! A jury drawn from among the participants will judge both the biscuits and the jumpers.
The ‘Christmas Buddy Event’ will take place on 17 December 2018 from 5.00 pm at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in the canteen (Building 16).
