Thanks to the commitment of regional businesses, organisations, foundations and private individuals, high-achieving students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) can receive support each year in the form of a Germany Scholarship. Last year, for the first time, members of the public also contributed through donations – resulting in two additional scholarships. This year, too, members of the public can once again support young talent through donations, thereby helping to attract future skilled workers to the region.
For over ten years, the Germany Scholarship has been supporting students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences who have already achieved outstanding academic results or who are expected to achieve particularly good academic results. In addition to academic performance, social commitment, a willingness to take on responsibility and any special social, family or personal circumstances are taken into account. Scholarship holders initially receive 300 euros per month for one year. Half of the funding is raised by the university from private sponsors, whilst the other half is provided by the federal government.
The Deutschlandstipendium is one of the few scholarship programmes in Germany for which international students can also apply. It is therefore of particular significance at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, which has many students from abroad. In the 2024/25 funding year, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was able to award a total of 60 scholarships using the funds it had raised.
In the summer of 2024, the university opened a new chapter in its funding culture: for the first time, private individuals were also able to contribute to the Deutschlandstipendium, even with smaller amounts. The 2024/25 funding year demonstrated just how strong the willingness is to support students. The university president, Prof. Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen, extends his thanks to everyone who contributed through donations: “Thanks to your support, two further students were able to receive the Germany Scholarship for one year. My sincere thanks go to everyone who made this possible and who is committed to the future of our students.” For the scholarship recipients, receiving a scholarship is a great honour. Furthermore, the funding means they can focus more fully on their studies.
Anyone wishing to support students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences personally can do so with a contribution of as little as 20 euros. All donations are pooled, and once 1,800 euros has been reached, the university can establish a further scholarship with the help of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
Prospective donors will certainly find this information of interest: your donation is tax-deductible. For donations of 300 euros or more, you will receive a donation receipt. If you wish to support the Germany Scholarship as a private individual, you can transfer your donation to the account below.
