On Friday 5 May 2017, a delegation from the faculty visited the JRC in Petten, the Netherlands, to strengthen the partnership.
Over the past few years, this successful collaboration has already been evident in a number of projects, such as an interdisciplinary project on data visualisation. There are also numerous opportunities for fruitful cooperation between the university and the JRC in the future. For example, Sven Nehls, a student on the Media and Communication Informatics (B.Sc.) programme, supported by Jenny Lüde, a graduate of the Information and Communication Design (B.A.) programme, is working on a Bachelor’s thesis on the interactive visualisation of data, supervised by Professors Frank Zimmer and Jörg Petri.
During the visit, Professor Petri provided an overview of the faculty’s current projects in the fields of Information and Communication Design and Digital Media. Professor Zimmer explained various aspects and projects within the Media and Communication Informatics degree programme, followed by a presentation by Sven Nehls and Jenny Lüde on the progress of their Bachelor’s thesis and the next steps in its development. Finally, on behalf of the Joint Research Centre, Darren McGarry presented various current JRC projects and experiments.
All in all, it was a successful and promising event that provided numerous innovative ideas for future collaboration.
