The members of the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences Friends’ Association are supporting students who have fallen on hard times as a result of the coronavirus crisis. At the Friends’ Association’s board and executive committee meeting, the chairman, Dr Stefan Dietzfelbinger, and the managing director, Daphne van Doorn, presented a cheque for 5,500 euros to the university’s president, Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen.
Two-thirds of all students fund their studies through part-time work. Many of these jobs have been lost as a result of the crisis. Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences feels a particular responsibility towards its students in this regard and has launched an appeal for donations to provide support. Students in need are to receive a one-off, non-repayable grant of 250 euros towards their living costs from a coronavirus relief fund.
A total of 5,500 euros has been raised within a very short space of time from donations and funds provided by the Friends’ Association. “Supporting students is, right now, one of the most important and rewarding tasks of our Friends’ Association. Without help, many students will not be able to continue their studies. This is another reason why we will continue to collect donations for this cause,” said Dietzfelbinger.
