After years of study, often hampered by the pandemic and the associated precautionary measures, the graduates from the Faculties of Technology and Bionics and Life Sciences celebrated their graduation together on 12 January 2024 in the Audimax Kleve with their families, friends and lecturers.
Prof. Dr William Megill and Prof. Dr Peter Simon presided over the ceremony. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Kisters, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Transfer, congratulated the graduates on behalf of the Executive Board, whilst the deans of the two faculties, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Nissing and Prof. Dr Peter Scholz, invited the graduates to stay in touch with their lecturers: “This is not a farewell, but a hope that we shall meet again soon.”
Martin Willing, a graduate of the Quality, Safety, Environment and Hygiene programme at the Faculty of Life Sciences, was honoured for his degree, whilst Nils Braake from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics received an award for his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The professors’ band, Orange Green, provided the musical backdrop to the ceremony. Lisa Waberg and Shingirai Matsveru presented the alumni network with an entertaining quiz, and Björn Flockau, a research assistant at the Faculty of Life Sciences, entertained the audience with a live science slam-style performance centred on memories, including some of the graduates’ fondest memories of their time at university.
On 17 November 2023, the Faculty of Society and Economics had already held a ceremony to bid a fond farewell to 49 graduates, together with their families and friends. The event was chaired by Dean Ralf Klapdor, who warmly welcomed the graduates, family members and guests present in a short speech. Prof. Dr Tatiana Zimenkova, Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity, delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Executive Board. Lisa Waberg (coordinator of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences Alumni Network) congratulated all graduates on their academic achievements. She encouraged everyone present to take part in a short alumni quiz, using this light-hearted approach to explain the role and activities of the alumni network. The graduation ceremony was accompanied by a piano performance by student Farhan Sirajudeen.
Aylin Klisura from the Gender and Diversity (BA) programme was recognised as the top Bachelor’s graduate, whilst Aneta Pavlov from the Economics and Finance (MSc) programme was honoured as the top Master’s graduate.
And not even the pouring rain could dampen the festive atmosphere when the Faculty of Communication and Environment honoured nearly 120 invited graduates with a celebratory send-off in the Audimax on 20 October 2023. As part of a festive programme, the former students received their certificates along with best wishes for the future.
Prof. Dr Jörg Petri, Vice-President for Student Affairs, Teaching and Academic Continuing Education, delivered the welcome address on behalf of the University Executive Board. Dean Prof. Dr Klaus Hegemann acted as compère for the festive afternoon.
No fewer than three graduates received the prize for outstanding final dissertations from the Friends of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences e.V., represented by Julia Nepicks. The honourees were Marjahan Akter (Information Engineering and Computer Sciences, M.Sc.), Hannah Teschke (Mobility and Logistics, B.Sc.), and Can Karsten (International Business Administration, B.A.).
The Campus Camp-Lintfort e.V. Friends’ Association also presented its annual awards and recognised the top achievers. Chairman Andreas Kaudelka congratulated a total of 16 graduates on achieving the highest marks in their respective degree programmes.
The event was accompanied by music from HSRW student Gregor Schwarz, who received loud applause for his guitar songs.
Following the ceremonial presentation of certificates to all graduates, it was once again time for the graduates from all faculties to gather for the group graduation photos: ‘Three, two, one – hats up!’
