The FabLabs at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences – where digital innovations are developed, designed and tested – will be offering inspiring insights at the leading event for the digital community in the Ruhr region.

The universities have plenty to offer: drones, 3D scanners and printers, VR headsets and loads of prototypes to touch and try out. The submarine built by the Submarine Team at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will also be on display.

Adriana Cabrera from FabLab Kamp-Lintfort will give a talk on the topic ‘Smart and Soft: open-source bio-inspired prototyping’. The research assistant conducts research in various areas of design, as well as into materials developed using nature as a model. The process of soft and smart prototyping explores the ‘intelligence and beauty’ of natural processes. The insights gained from this form the basis for various developments such as lightweight construction and biomaterials, wearables and soft robotics. Alongside a fascinating insight into the interdisciplinary work of the FabLabs and their new approaches to developing creative and innovative products, visitors can admire a selection of prototypes from their collection of materials and textiles.

WestVisions will take place on 16 May 2018 from 6.00 pm at the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park. Full details of the programme can be found at www.westvisions.de. Free registration for the event is available at https://www.eventbrite.de/e/westvisions-04-tickets-43930607630 (the number of tickets is limited).
