Anna-Lena Jesse has become the first student from our university to be selected for the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. The International Relations student will spend a semester abroad at Florida International University during the 2018/19 winter semester.
The 2,000-euro scholarship from the German-American Fulbright Commission is intended to promote academic and cultural exchange between the USA and Germany. All German and American scholarship holders met in March for a joint preparatory and networking event in Berlin. “I really appreciate having been able to take part in the seminar in Berlin. I had a wonderful and eventful time, during which I got to know quite a few new people, some of whom I’m sure I’ll meet again – either in the US or in Germany,” says Anna-Lena Jesse enthusiastically. “What’s more, it provided excellent organisational support – for example, with regard to visa and insurance matters – so I now feel well prepared and am looking forward even more to my semester abroad at Florida International University.”
The German-American Fulbright Programme brings to life the visionary idea of US Senator J. William Fulbright: to promote mutual understanding between the USA and Germany through academic and cultural exchange. It facilitates exchange between the United States and more than 160 countries worldwide. Since its inception, the Fulbright Programme has supported over 310,000 scholarship holders worldwide. Every year, 8,000 people take part in the student exchange programme.
