The Alternative Tourism degree programme at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences has just seen its first graduate complete the course after seven semesters.
And not only that, she is also the very first graduate this degree programme has ever produced. “I am delighted that Ms Peters has successfully completed her degree and wish her all the best for the future,” says Prof. Dr Diana Marquardt, Programme Director of Alternative Tourism and supervisor of the Bachelor’s thesis. Her thesis was entitled “Analysis of the Tourism Potential of Japan and the Philippines with a View to Expanding the Portfolio of erlebe-fernreisen GmbH” and stemmed from her current role with the online tour operator erlebe-fernreisen GmbH in Weeze. Ms Peters will now work there as a travel specialist for Indonesia, designing and selling holidays to the region. “The Alternative Tourism degree programme here in Kleve has thoroughly prepared me for this role and I’m looking forward to putting my knowledge to good use,” says the graduate.
Further graduation ceremonies are scheduled, meaning that more graduates from the first cohort of the Alternative Tourism degree programme will soon be entering the job market. These pioneering students began their studies at the temporary campus in Emmerich and witnessed the move to the new buildings on Spoy. An exciting period is drawing to a close for them, but they are looking forward to the future with anticipation and are excited to start their careers. At the official graduation ceremony on 12 June 2015, they will all have one last chance to celebrate their success.
