Working together for a sustainable future: On 6 June, the City of Kleve and the TransRegINT project at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) will open the DialogPunkt Kleve in Kleve’s pedestrian zone. Until 28 June 2024, a wide range of initiatives for a sustainable future will be brought to life in the shop premises at An der Münze 12.
The planned activities focus on three areas: ‘Sustainable Communities’, ‘Sustainable Food’ and ‘Sustainable Mobility’. Each focus area will be the subject of a themed week, offering a wide range of events, including panel discussions, workshops and practical activities aimed at informing, inspiring and encouraging people to take action. In addition, there will be opportunities for open discussion from Wednesday to Friday between 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm. The full programme for DialogPunkt Kleve is available on the website.
Looking for cool places?
During the ‘Sustainable Community’ theme week from 12 to 14 June, the GreenFabLab at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) and the City of Kleve will be presenting the ‘Refill Map’, the ‘Cool Places Map’, a thermal imaging camera and the City of Kleve’s weather station. The ‘Refill Map’ shows locations across Germany where water bottles can be refilled free of charge, including several in Kleve. To make it easier to find cool places that offer respite on hot days, the City of Kleve has produced a special leaflet, which is available at DialogPunkt Kleve. In the workshop, anyone interested can learn how to set up a weather station themselves. In his talk on 12 June, Akke Wilmes from the NRW Consumer Advice Centre will answer questions about the energy transition. The architect and energy consultant is looking forward to input and questions from the audience.
Science explained simply: Sustainable food systems
One of the events during the ‘Sustainable Food’ theme week, running from 19 to 21 June, is a presentation on food systems and agroforestry projects by researchers from the HSRW. On Thursday 20 June, during a stroll through Kleve, participants will gain an insight into the green diversity of Kleve’s urban gardens. This will be followed by a visit to the community gardens in Kleve. Haus Mifgash will be the guest at the first ‘Klima Café Kleve’. Over tea and snacks, experiences and ideas for a more sustainable future will be shared. On Friday evening, those interested will have the opportunity to learn more about agroforestry systems. Dr Ana Kreter from the TransRegINT Agroforestry Real-World Laboratory will introduce regional agroforestry partners and invite attendees to a tasting of agroforestry products.
Travelling sustainably: experiencing nature, reducing CO₂
The City of Kleve’s Department of Climate Protection, Environment and Sustainability, in collaboration with the Kleve branch of the ADFC, is organising the ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign. On Friday 28 June, there will be an exhibition of bicycles, cargo bikes, trailers and transport accessories. Also on display will be ‘Froggi’, the HSRW’s electric cabin scooter, which has been in service since May. The ADFC has also organised a range of tours for the DialogPunkt Kleve. Interested visitors are invited to take part in free test rides. Under the slogan ‘Get your bike summer-ready’, a bike repair café will take place on Wednesday 26 June.
Sustainable mobility in the Lower Rhine region encompasses more than just cycling: Prof. Dr Imgard Buder from the TransRegINT team will speak on Thursday 27 June about the HSRW’s current research into hydrogen as a new energy source. A panel discussion on Thursday evening will explore new and flexible transport solutions and provide an overview of the current state of mobility options in Kleve and the surrounding area. This offers an opportunity to play an active role in shaping a mobility vision tailored to the needs and requirements of Kleve’s residents.
DialogPunkt Kleve is the first regional office to be opened as part of the TransRegINT project. Other local authorities have already expressed an interest in setting up their own regional offices. Christina Martens from the TransRegINT project team is available to answer any enquiries.
