On 18 September, the new cross-border gaming app ‘Sofia’s Smuggling – Cross-Border Hunt’ was officially launched; staff and students from the Media and Communication Informatics (B.Sc.) and Digital Media, M.A. programmes at the Faculty of Communication and Environment.
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen developed the storyline and gameplay sequences in the eight museums using interactive stories, beacons, augmented reality and other state-of-the-art gaming technologies. The resulting experiences offer a playful and innovative way of engaging with art and historical cultural heritage, designed to appeal particularly to teenagers, young adults and gamers who are young at heart.
The eight different stories can be played in any order at the following museums in the Lower Rhine region and in the Dutch province of Gelderland: LVR Archaeological Park Xanten, Hernen Castle (Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen), Goch Museum, Het Valkhof Museum, Kurhaus Kleve Museum, Moyland Castle Museum, Freiheitsmuseum and the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum.
The game is now available to download from various app stores. Watch the trailer for the game here: https://sofiassmuggling.de/
