Prof. Dr Andy Stamm, Professor of Electronics and Embedded Systems at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, appeared on the WDR programme “Lokalzeit” for the Duisburg region to offer tips on saving energy, particularly for shops with large retail spaces. Keeping these premises closed for a day or reducing their opening hours as part of “Green Monday” would help to save energy. Switching from fluorescent tubes to LED lighting can save up to 80 per cent on energy costs for lighting. For large shops with suitable roof areas, it is also worth considering installing solar panels or other alternative energy sources.
