The VDI Lower Rhine Regional Association has once again awarded the VDI University Prize this year. The prize recognises outstanding achievements by students in the engineering faculties of the three universities – Düsseldorf, Lower Rhine and Rhine-Waal – and is worth €500 per award.
The VDI Lower Rhine Regional Association has once again awarded the VDI University Prize this year. The prize recognises outstanding achievements by students from the engineering faculties of the three universities – Düsseldorf, Lower Rhine and Rhine-Waal – and is worth €500 each. The jury comprises professors from the three universities and VDI members. The following students from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences were delighted to receive the award: Alexei Rusu was honoured for his Bachelor’s thesis *Development and benchmarking of computer-vision-based methods for the detection and classification of empty items at HAVI Logistics* as part of the Mechatronic Systems Engineering degree programme. Julia Falkenstein received the prize for her Bachelor’s thesis *The Influence of Ceramic Particles on Mesenchymal Stromal Cell-Educated Macrophages* in the Biomaterials Science programme. An award was also presented to the HSRW Mint Girls (namely Haifaa Mansour, Raissa Breenzinckr Reis Lima, Aida Darisavi Jorfian, Paola Wouappi, Johanna Verholen, Francesca Bors, Carla Sofia Afonso Dias and Phyllis Ndugire Wamukore), who, as engineering students, support other female students in the faculty through a network in a variety of ways, including joint study groups, as well as by organising excursions, soft skills workshops and arranging mentoring relationships.
