Three awards from the VDI Lower Rhine Regional Association were presented to students from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences for their bachelor’s theses and for the ‘HSRW MINT Girls’ initiative.
Once again this year, the VDI Lower Rhine Regional Association presented the VDI University Prize, each worth 500 euros. With this prize, the association recognises the outstanding achievements of engineering students at the three universities: Düsseldorf, Lower Rhine and Rhine-Waal. A total of nine awards were presented. The jury comprises professors from the three universities and VDI members. The following students from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences were among the recipients:
Alexei Rusu, from the Mechatronics System Engineering programme, impressed the expert jury with his bachelor’s thesis ‘Development and benchmarking of computer vision-based methods for the detection and classification of empty items at HAVI Logistics’. Julia Falkenstein impressed the jury with her final-year project ‘The Influence of Ceramic Particles on Mesenchymal Stromal Cell-Educated Macrophages’ as part of the Bachelor’s programme in Biomaterial Sciences.
The “HSRW MINT Girls” – Haifaa Mansour, Raissa Breenzinckr Reis Lima, Aida Darisavi Jorfian, Paola Wouappi, Johanna Verholen, Francesca Bors, Carla Sofia Afonso Dias and Phyllis Ndugire Wamukore. The female engineering students have set up their own network with the aim of supporting other female students in the Faculty of Technology and Bionics. Their activities include, for example, joint study groups, organising excursions and soft-skills seminars, as well as arranging mentoring schemes.
