The second “DenkWerkStadt” event of the year, taking place on 11 June 2019, will focus on the topic “Robotics and artificial intelligence – are robots (already) smarter than us?”. In this lecture series, academics from the university leave the campus and head into the city to engage in dialogue between society and science, together with experts from the region.

The idea for ‘DenkWerkStadt’ originated as part of the NUCLEUS project at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The project examines communication management within institutionalised science and aims to foster a new understanding within universities and other scientific institutions regarding communication, learning and exchange with social groups.
Following its successful launch in the 2018/2019 winter semester, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is now continuing the series. The next ‘DenkWerkStadt’ event, on 11 June 2019 from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm, will focus on the topic of robotics and artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence methods often shape our everyday lives: in our computers, mobile phones and smartwatches, we carry learning machines around with us and drive ever more intelligent cars.
Professor Dr Ronny Hartanto, Professor of Technical Computer Science, and Professor Dr Matthias Krauledat, Professor of Computer Science, both from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will explore the question of whether robots are (already) smarter than us. Together with members of the public, they aim to explore topics such as the extent to which our daily lives will be shaped by machines in the future, whether we can trust robots at all, and how programmers can ensure that ‘machine learning’ methods behave fairly.
