Colour the Bridge

The underpass leading to the school complex on Moerser Straße in Kamp-Lintfort is set to become more colourful: a student project at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has set itself the aim of brightening up the bare concrete surfaces. Under the supervision of Prof. Jörg Petri and research assistant Jana-Lina Berkenbusch, students Marija Piliponyt, Vera Baranets and Mohamed Diallo are bringing scenes from Kamp-Lintfort’s local history to life on the walls. The project, provisionally titled ‘Color the bridge – History of Kamp-Lintfort’, was launched in collaboration with the town of Kamp-Lintfort as part of the ‘Information and Communication Design’ degree programme. “We want to broaden the students’ perspective on design: how do the level of detail, colours or line work change when I transfer a drawing from paper onto a wall,” explained Petri and Berkenbusch today (21 June) at the meeting of the Main and Finance Committee. “Projects like this bring the work of the university and its students right into the heart of the town and make it tangible for the public,” said Mayor Prof. Dr Christoph Landscheidt, emphasising the decision to support the project.

In keeping with the title, the students have selected aspects of Kamp-Lintfort’s history and illustrated them, such as the Friedrich Heinrich colliery or Isabella Clara Eugenia, the Spanish governor of the Netherlands, after whom the Fossa Eugeniana is named.

The design and planning phase has been underway since May. From mid-July, the designs will be displayed on the walls. Members of the public who are interested are invited to find out more about the project on site.
