The photography exhibition has been conceived by design students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences as part of the ‘The Final Image’ project and is curated by Berlin-based photographer Valerie Schmidt. During the summer term of 2018, the students – who come from all over the world – each worked on a single photograph that encompasses three time frames: the past, the present and the future.
The final image was either chosen as ‘the one’ from a large series or planned following meticulous preparation. Some of the students built an entire set; others spent hours documenting an event; whilst others created sculptures specifically for the photograph, which were destroyed once the shot had been taken.
In the exhibition, visitors will encounter different approaches to what a final image can signify: a constantly shifting reflection of the past, a split-second change in an object caused by the technical nature of the camera shutter, the creation of an inaccurate likeness in a portrait, the temporal transformation of a space, or a theatrical scene from the future.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 7 July at 4.00 pm at Café Koh Munchies, Ringstraße 117, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort, and runs there until 7 August 2018.
A set of postcards featuring all the images on display will be available for purchase at the exhibition. Admission to the exhibition is free.
