This is the fourth time the university has organised an open hackathon on the topic of accessibility. Participants will come together from 10 to 12 May to work on ideas and solutions designed to make life easier for people with disabilities.
The aim of the event is to develop innovative solutions using state-of-the-art technologies such as additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing), artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Precision tools (3D scanners, laser cutters, CNC machines) and state-of-the-art software are used to create the best possible, well-thought-out concepts and prototypes in the shortest possible time.
Another key objective is to bring together people with and without disabilities, enabling needs to be communicated first-hand whilst also raising awareness of the need for accessibility in all areas of life. Interdisciplinarity lies at the heart of the ACCESSATHON concept. All participants are experts in their own right and can contribute their knowledge and skills – be it creativity, technical expertise or personal experience.
Over 150 people took part in the last three hackathons, and more than 20 projects were developed. As well as receiving extremely positive feedback from participants and the audience, the events also led to personal friendships and partnerships with similar projects both within and outside the region. In the spirit of inclusion and sharing the results, most communication takes place in English. However, those interested who only speak German will also be able to manage. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required.
