2. Accessathon

A hackathon is an event where people come together to work on various projects over a period of several days. The word is a combination of the English terms ‘to hack’ and ‘marathon’. The word ‘hack’ has now become established as a term for ingenious methods used either to repurpose objects so that they can be used to solve a problem, or to develop innovative techniques using radically simple means.

Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is already strongly committed to diversity and inclusion, and welcomes the students’ initiative, which, through this hackathon, is now addressing the issue of accessibility for the second time. People with and without disabilities will work hand in hand to develop solutions to the challenges that living with a disability presents. Through specialist talks and workshops, participants will be able to explore the topic in greater depth, exchange knowledge and discover useful tools for their projects. In mixed project groups, participants will then devise concepts for a good quality of life despite disability.

The second ACCESSATHON will take place on the Kamp-Lintfort campus. With the support of sponsors, catering, materials and prizes for the best projects will be provided.

The results of the second hackathon will once again be comprehensively documented and published. The language of the presentations and the working language of the hackathon is English.

Who can take part?

Anyone, with or without a disability, who would like to contribute to projects on the topic of accessibility.
