Abir Bhattacharyya and James Specker, two Master’s students on the Bionics programme, also took part in the 2019 Best Idea Cup and hope that their idea, ‘Raise Innovation’, will make it easier to use agricultural land and do so more efficiently.
Carrying out a detailed analysis of these areas or identifying pests is still a time-consuming process. Raise Innovation aims to change that. With the help of drones, precise maps can be created and valuable information gleaned from them. Within a second, the soil’s moisture level can be determined and its current condition assessed. Bhattacharyya and Specker’s system operates with up to 87 per cent accuracy and can even distinguish between individual plant species.
Raise Innovation enables farmers to gain more accurate insights into their soil, organise their work more effectively and thus reduce costs accordingly.
