English-taught degree programmes and an international atmosphere
The Faculty of Society and Economics offers four Bachelor’s and two Master’s degree programmes taught entirely in English. The international nature of these degree programmes creates a distinctive global atmosphere. German and international students study side by side, whilst also benefiting directly from the diverse experiences of their fellow students. English is not only the predominant language of instruction, but students also speak English to one another quite naturally in everyday life.
International experience and mobility window
The mobility window in the 6th semester of each Bachelor’s programme also allows for a Semester abroad or an Internship. With 32 European Erasmus partnerships and 23 non-European partner universities, there are 28 countries to choose from. Furthermore, international relations are constantly being expanded. The faculty is the most internationally mobile at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. This applies both to the number of students who spend a semester abroad and to the number of exchange students welcomed here.
There is also a special module for exchange students offering an introduction to German politics, society and the economic system. In addition, a buddy programme helps students settle in quickly at the faculty and in Kleve.

Course offerings:
You have a great deal of flexibility in choosing your courses, and we offer a special module entitled “Introduction to German Society, Politics and Economics”.
Our degree programmes have been redesigned. The new degree programmes are being introduced gradually, whilst the old ones are being phased out. To help you know which courses will be available during the semester you plan to spend with us, you will find an overview and course descriptions of the available courses in the following course catalogues. They also contain guidance on how to select your courses:

Strengthening international partnerships
Initially, the focus was on establishing international partnerships. The faculty is now concentrating on strengthening these partnerships. This includes:
- Double-degree programmes
- Cross-border student projects
- Lecturer exchanges
The first double-degree programme was established in collaboration with Ferris State University (USA) for the Bachelor’s degree programme in International Business and Social Sciences. Building on this, similar programmes are to follow for International Relations, Gender and Diversity, and International Taxation and Law.
Thanks to its convenient location on the Dutch border, students can also take part in projects with Dutch universities. In this way, they gain new professional and intercultural experience.
International research
The faculty is also active internationally in research. A particular focus is on higher education in East Africa. From 2015 to 2017, it contributed to building research capacity in the field of applied macroeconomics in Rwanda. The project was funded by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Members of the faculty are currently leading a DAAD-funded consortium of German universities of applied sciences. The aim is to promote “networking and training initiatives based on the German university of applied sciences model in Kenya”.
