Prof. Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen has been appointed President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences with effect from 1 June 2025 until 31 May 2031. He is thus the first president in the university’s relatively short history to begin a second term of office. Back in November 2024, the President was re-elected for a second term by the University Assembly of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW).
Prof. Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen has been appointed President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences with effect from 1 June 2025 until 31 May 2031. He is thus the first president in the university’s relatively short history to serve a second term of office.
Back in November 2024, the President was re-elected for a second term by the University Assembly of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW). The official appointment has now been made by Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Having taken office in 2019 with the aims of strengthening HSRW as a university of applied sciences and expanding regional networks – alongside expanding national and international collaborations, fostering a more diverse student body and promoting sustainability – Prof. Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen is now focusing on consolidating his efforts. “I am looking forward to the next six years at this fantastic university and also to helping shape the development of higher education in North Rhine-Westphalia.”
He can rely on trusted colleagues in this endeavour, as the Vice-Presidency from his first term was also re-elected for a second term by the University Electoral Assembly in February. “Together with the three re-elected Vice-Presidents – Prof. Dr Jörg Petri, Vice-President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Kisters, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, and Prof. Dr. habil. Tatiana Zimenkova, Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity – the university can count on continuity and trust within the Executive Board. “Together, and as soon as possible with a new Chancellor, we will tackle the tasks and challenges facing the HSRW as a collegial body, the Executive Board.”
