The Studium Generale on the topic of ‘Energy’ attracted nearly 800 visitors to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. A wide range of topics were presented and discussed across eleven lectures.
The Studium Generale programme is aimed at members of the public, school pupils, university students and anyone in the region with an interest in academia, as well as at lecturers and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on general, universal education. The event format also provides a platform for lively exchange and discussion on current issues.
A wide range of topics has already been covered in the lectures. For example, representatives from academia and industry have spoken on various aspects of innovation, health management and sustainability. The most recent series of lectures focused on the topic of ‘energy’. Across the eleven individual events, speakers from the university, together with external speakers, explored the topic from a wide variety of perspectives.
The clear highlight was the lecture ‘Renewable Energy and Electromobility’, which attracted 130 attendees. “The topic is, of course, currently the subject of intense public debate. But we hadn’t actually expected such a huge turnout,” said Professor Dr Jens Gebauer, Vice-President for Research and Knowledge Transfer and head of the Studium Generale, expressing his delight. The two lectures “Spirituality as Energy” and “Employee Motivation – Human Energy in the Workplace” also attracted a great deal of interest. Just over 100 listeners in each case were captivated by the content on human imagination and neurobiological explanations of motivation. The third-most-attended lecture, ‘Bioenergy: The Farmer as Energy Producer’, attracted 88 guests.
“Overall, we are more than satisfied with the response. It shows that Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences has created a programme with the Studium Generale that is very well received in the region,” said Professor Gebauer. In his view, however, it is not just the lectures themselves, but also the opportunities for dialogue that make the Studium Generale so appealing. The theme for the coming winter term has already been confirmed as ‘Water’.
