This year’s Studium Generale is dedicated to the multifaceted theme of ‘Energy’. In their lecture entitled ‘Reflections on the efficiency of conventional power stations and its limitations under the Second Law of Thermodynamics’, the speakers Dr Klaus Peter Arz, Head of Department at AVG Abfallentsorgungs- und Verwertungsgesellschaft Köln mbH, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Gebel, Professor of Process Engineering and Thermodynamics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will continue the series of events on 24 October 2017 at 7.00 pm.
Using the specific example of a residual waste incineration plant, they clearly explain the relationship between the plant’s actual efficiency and the theoretically possible efficiency dictated by thermodynamics.
The event will take place on the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 1).
The lecture is part of the Studium Generale programme and has been designed to make science accessible through lectures that are easy for everyone to understand. The lecture programme is aimed at members of the general public, students, school pupils and anyone in the region with an interest in science, as well as professors and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on general, universal education. The lecture series also provides a platform for lively exchange and discussion on current issues.
