Studium Generale: Start of the 2018/2019 winter term at the Kleve campus (News)

Water is the foundation of all life. Hardly any other substance is of such great importance to our everyday lives whilst also presenting such a wide range of facets. Whether from a physical, ecological, health-related, socio-political, technological or cultural perspective – there is no getting round this chemical compound. This term, the Studium Generale programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is exploring this highly complex topic from a range of fascinating perspectives.

The lecture topics for the 2018/2019 winter semester range from a physical analysis, efficient water conservation and sustainable drinking water supply, through to flood protection, water sports and plastic waste in the world’s oceans, right through to a cultural reflection on the topic in the fields of music, art and religion. Professor Dr. habil. Jens Gebauer, Vice-President for Research and Knowledge Transfer, is looking forward to welcoming many interested visitors. “Water features in many different aspects of our daily lives. I am therefore certain that the topic, in all its facets, provides a basis for fascinating lectures. Exchange and discussion are very important to us in this regard. We warmly invite anyone of any age who is interested to attend the lectures as part of the Studium Generale programme,” explains Vice-President Gebauer.

Professor Dr Alexander Struck, Professor of Theoretical Physics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will open the lecture series on 16 October 2018 at 7.00 pm with the lecture ‘What is water and what makes it so special?’. The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 1).

The Studium Generale was designed to make science accessible through lectures that are easy for everyone to understand. The lecture programme is aimed at the general public, students, school pupils and anyone in the region with an interest in science, as well as at lecturers and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on general, universal education. The lecture series also provides a platform for lively exchange and discussion on current issues. Attendance at the Studium Generale lectures at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is free of charge and no advance registration is required.
