Scholarship Dinner at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (Press release)

79 high-achieving students can look forward to receiving funding under the Deutschlandstipendium scheme during the 2018/2019 academic year. They met their sponsors at the scholarship dinner held at the Kamp-Lintfort campus.

At the scholarship dinner, the three support associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, express their gratitude for the commitment of the scholarship donors, whose support enables a total of 79 students to benefit. In addition to the financial aspect, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the support associations attach particular importance to strengthening the ties between the sponsors and their scholarship recipients as potential future talent for the region.

“We are proud of your achievements to date and are delighted to celebrate today’s award with you,” said Professor Dr Marion Halfmann, Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Education, in her speech to the award recipients. In her speech, she emphasised how important this support is for the students and noted that, against this backdrop, the jury found it no easy task to make their selection. The students received a certificate from Federal Minister of Education Anja Karliczek, presented by the Vice-President.

During a festive buffet, sponsors and scholarship recipients had the opportunity to get to know one another. They were also able to engage in interesting discussions with representatives from the regional business community and members of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences about their studies, career aspirations and professional ambitions, and to forge new contacts with the companies.

In the run-up to the scholarship dinner, the scholarship holders attended an event – organised by the Central Career Service and the Alumni Office – where they were given an overview of the opportunities available to them as part of the support programme for the Germany Scholarship, as well as information about the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ alumni network.

Students with very good academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences raises from support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government. In total, 122,400 euros were donated by private scholarship providers for the funding period in the 2018/2019 academic year. In this way, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is able to distribute a total of 244,800 euros in scholarship funds to 79 of its best students.

In addition to financial support, the scholarship offers non-monetary support through an accompanying programme, which, in the view of the regional business community, is of particular benefit to all parties. On the one hand, this helps to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the region; on the other, it gives students the opportunity to prove themselves in the labour market.
